The attorneys in the firm’s real estate group each have more than forty years of experience in representing individuals and businesses in all forms of simple and complex real estate transactions in Northeastern Ohio. The group represents developers, owners, lenders and institutional buyers and sellers in the acquisition, development and financing of single-family housing developments, multi-phase and individual condominium projects, office buildings, office parks, various facilities in medical campuses, industrial parks, and shopping centers. Attorneys in the group were one of the first to organize and establish commercial condominiums in the State of Ohio, leasehold medical office and general office condominiums, and multi-phase mixed-use residential developments. Both private and institutional investors have used the services of the group in connection with acquisition financing and refinancing of all types, including traditional mortgages, industrial revenue bonds, and leasehold financing.


The group has represented real estate owners in the most sophisticated forms of leasing transactions. National and local institutional lenders employ the group's services in foreclosure and other insolvency proceedings, as well as in the preparation and review of traditional loan documentation for mortgage transactions. The group has represented national companies in connection with various title insurance issues and litigation.


The real estate group works with the litigation group to represent owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in almost all phases of commercial litigation involving construction disputes, both in the courts and in arbitration proceedings. They also work together representing parties involved with major national and local real estate brokers.



Collins & Scanlon has for many years had a specialty in receivership matters. By request of lenders, borrowers and courts, we have served as receiver or counsel to receivers in numerous matters in Northeast Ohio. The property and businesses in question primarily involve real estate including commercial buildings, hotels, strip centers, etc., and multifamily residential properties. We also have operated, sold as an operating entity, and liquidated a variety of businesses in receivership.
