Kenneth R. Callahan, Partner
Kenneth R. Callahan has practiced law, and served as a judge of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, for more than 30 years. As a public defender, a judge, and an attorney in private practice, Ken has become adept at quickly identifying the core of an issue faced by parties to disputes. He applies the perspective he has gained to business litigation, white collar criminal defense, internal investigations, receivership and guardianship matters. Ken is also registered as a Private Judge in the State of Ohio, and regularly serves as Mediator and Arbitrator at the appointment of parties and courts.
Ken’s professional associations include membership in Judge John M. Manos Inn of Court where he serves on its Executive Committee, and was a Past President; Past President of the Catholic Lawyers Guild; former ADR Advisory Board and Judicial Advisory Board Member for the Ohio Common Pleas Court Judges Association; Life Member of the Eighth Judicial Conference; Vice Chair of the Judicial Selection Committee for the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association; former member of Civil and Criminal Rules Committee of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas; Founding Member and Board Member of the Irish American Law Society of Cleveland.
Ken was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1983; the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in 1989; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit in 1989.
He is a graduate of John Carroll University in 1979, and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1983.
Ken also has been recognized in a variety of ways for the distinct contributions he has made to the legal community, and to his alma maters. He received the Golden Gavel Award from the Ohio Common Pleas Judge’s Association, the Outstanding Alumnus award from the Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association, the Cardinal Bellarmine award from St. Ignatius High School, and the William H. Rehnquist Award. He continues to be recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyer – Business Litigation by Insider Business. He also has been named a member of the Irish Legal 100 by the Irish Voice magazine. Ken has been appointed and re-appointed by U.S. Senators Brown and Voinovich to the Federal Judicial Commission for the Southern District of Ohio. He was a member of the Cuyahoga County Charter Review Commission by the then County Executive, Edward FitzGerald. He has recently served on The Judicial Advisory Committee by appointment of the District Court of the Northern District of Ohio.
Ken’s community involvement runs deep. He is a board member of the International Community Council, the Irish American Archives Society, the Arryppe Board of St. Ignatius High School, the Cleveland Civil war Roundtable where he is a Past President, and the International Children’s Games.
Ken is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School, John Carroll University and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He studied at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland during his undergraduate years.
